Marley Johnson will exhibit his new painting series at the Craig Gallery until January 28, 2018.

From the Craig Gallery's website: 
Artist statement: My paintings investigate the agency of colour through a vibrant, messy and precarious sensibility. These works are suggestive landscapes, investigating the inner exploration of indexical mark making, working with a formal and vital approach, I have been influenced by modes of expressionism, experimenting with its potential. The shapes and contours implies a playfulness, exuberance, and a sense of effervescence or froth which forms in-between the push//pull of tides. By breaking down the impression of the gestures, leaving it raw and undefined I hope to reveal something transparent about the process of painting and color.

Bio: Marley Johnson completed his BFA at NSCAD university in 2015, he also studied at Cooper Union in New York City on an exchange. Upon graduating Marley was awarded a residency in Lunenburg NS, where he spent a year working within a ceramics community. During that year he also received a Talent Trust scholarship. Marley is currently doing his MFA at Concordia university in Montreal.

Coastal Dance Theatre’s 2017 adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s “Snow Queen”

Hans Christian Andersen wrote The Snow Queen about 175 years ago. It is a magical story about friendship, courage and determination.

Kaya is Gerda's very best friend, but at a Christmas skating party, Kaya looks up at the snowflakes and her eye is struck by a falling piece of the Snow Queen ‘s Magic Mirror. The wicked mirror makes everything beautiful and kind look ugly and mean...and Kaya can only see hateful and nasty things. She is mean to Gerda and to all her friends and is swept away by the Snow Queen to her cold palace in the North.

But Gerda is determined to rescue Kaya and bravely follows her through many adventures until, all alone, she can save her friend from the Snow Queen 's cold grasp.

Join brave Gerda on her exciting quest to rescue her best friend Kaya from the spell of the cold Snow Queen. Meet Imps and courtiers, snowflakes and flowers, crows and robbers as Gerda travels ever North to the Snow Queen 's palace to free Kaya.
