Jeff Joudrey's Halifax Camerata Singers presents Memories of the Heart on

at First Baptist Church, Halifax.

The choir is joined by mezzo-soprano Christianne Rushton and pianist Lynette Wahlstrom in a romantic program of songs and memories of childhood, of loves lost, forbidden or foolish, and songs of times gone by.
 
Mezzo-soprano Christianne Rushton and Camerata open the program with a challenging choral composition by Aaron Copland titled In The Beginning.  Christianne will also perform works by Gaetano Donizetti, Franz Schubert, and Ola Gjeilo. 

Guest violinist, Jennifer Jones, of Symphony Nova Scotia and Rhapsody Quintet, is featured in Eric Whitacre’s beautiful Five Hebrew Love Songs.  Christianne will also perform Whitacre’s arrangement of Goodnight Moon, whose text is from the famous children’s book by Margaret Wise Brown.

Music featured by the Camerata Singers includes Only in Sleep by Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvald, Chant for a Long Day by Canada’s Stephen Hatfield, and songs from the American folk and gospel traditions.

Jeff Joudrey Artistic Director Halifax Camerata Singers announces new program

Founded by Artistic Director

 Jeff Joudrey in 1986, Halifax Camerata Singers has become one of Canada’s leading chamber choirs, winning the Healey Willan Grand Prize for Canadian choirs in 2010.  Their latest recording, A Time for All Things, won the 2016 Best Classical Recording from Music Nova Scotia and was nominated for an ECMA in 2017.

Music, memories and life in Halifax and the battlefront in France form the backdrop for the choir’s poignant production, Halifax 1917:  

From Dreams to Despair,

This co-production with the Halifax Central Library will take place in Paul O’Regan Hall, and also features actor/narrator Jeremy Webb, archival photographs from the days before and after the Explosion, and Rhapsody Quintet.  Last March this concert sold out and people were turned away at the door, so it is highly recommended to purchase tickets early for this one night only presentation, taking place just three days before the actual 100^th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion.
 
Halifax Camerata Singers will once again perform as part of the Symphony NS Chorus in December for two performances of Handel’s Messiah, this year conducted by Symphony Nova Scotia’s Maestro Bernhard Gueller, in the Mozart orchestration of the perennial holiday favorite with Dartmouth native Suzanne Rigden, soprano; Lauren Segal, mezzo-soprano; Owen McCausland, tenor and Brett Polegato, baritone.  These performances take place on 

Thursday and Friday, December 21 and 22 in the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium.

Jeff Joudrey takes his choir Halifax Camerata Singers to Edmonton International Choral Festival

The ECMA-nominated Halifax Camerata Singers (HCS) with special guests, Rhapsody Quintet and actor Jeremy Webb are taking Halifax 1917:  From Dreams to Despair to the first Edmonton International Choral Festival, June 1-4, as invited guests of Pro Coro Canada.

Camerata’s performance is on Friday, June 2 at 8:00 p.m. at All Saints Anglican Cathedral in Edmonton. www.halifaxcamerata.org

Artistic Director Jeff Joudrey commented “We wanted to tell a Nova Scotian story in Edmonton, and were delighted when the Artistic Director of Pro Coro Canada, Michael Zaugg, accepted our suggestion of taking the Explosion show to a Western audience.  We are also so excited to perform with Pro Coro and Sweden’s Voces Nordicae and to work with master choral conductor, Robert Sund.”

The Halifax Camerata Singers is Atlantic Canada’s premier chamber choir. Founded in 1986 by Artistic Director Jeff Joudrey, the Nova Scotia ensemble has distinguished itself by performing exciting choral repertoire that covers all periods and styles, with special attention to Canadian music.
