75th Anniversary Pop Up Series Continues with Down The Line

As part of the Nova Scotia Talent Trust's 75th Anniversary Pop-Up Event series KiDanCo and Nostos Collectives Dance, present Down the Line, featuring former scholarship recipients Georgia Skinner, Rebecca Wolfe and Lydia Zimmer. 

June 5-7, 2019 at 8:00PM

Exploring grief and community, the new original work choreographed by Anastasia Wiebe with text by Rebecca Wolfe includes Nostos Collectives Dance members Jessica Lowe, Julie Robert, Georgia Skinner and Lydia Zimmer, and pre-professional KiDanCo members Sophia Farrah, Mackenzie Tomlin and Grace Skinner. 

"Through grief and anxiety we have the ability to get lost in our thoughts and forget that we are connected to a larger community. Down The Line studies that even though we may lose sight of our connections to these communities, they always exist, pulling us back to reality and a safe state of mind. There is a strong female energy in the work, focusing on the intergenerational bonds that hold us together and teach us that there are some lessons we learn over time and some lessons that we will never be prepared for."

Lydia Zimmer has pursued professional training at the Boston Conservatory, Canada's National Ballet School and Springboard Danse Montreal to emerge as an original and daring dancer and choreographer.

Georgia Skinner trained at Coastal Dance, graduated from The School of Toronto Dance Theatre’s and attended ImPulsTanz International Dance Festival 2015 in Vienna, Austria. She recently works with multiple dance companies in Nova Scotia.

Rebecca Wolfe studied theatre at George Brown College and Humber College and went on to perform both on stage and on screen with several Nova Scotian theatre companies, CBC and independent film.

Mocean Dance Engages the Community at the Marigold Cultural Centre March 31 – April 5, 2019

NSTT’s 75th Anniversary Ambassadors, Mocean Dance celebrate creativity in Truro with their second creation residency series in the development of Sara Coffin’s Wild Within.

The residency runs from March 31- April 5 2019 at Marigold Cultural Centre in Truro, and culminates with an artist talk and community workshop. 

Throughout the residency, Sara Coffin, Georgia Skinner and Lydia Zimmer - past program alumnae, will be acting as ambassadors of the Talent Trust program, inspiring and informing young students, dancers and community members of the NSTT's scholarship program. 

Guests are invited into a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process of dance and choreography. On April 4, the Truro community will hear a talk about Sara Coffin’s work-in-progress Wild Within. On April 5, students and community members are will partake in movement workshop, a short performance and a second artist talk focused on the creativity within Nova Scotia. 

Mocean Dance will also be hosting a benefit event on April 11 at Alderney Landing called “Heart of the Wild” in support of Wild Within.

Halifax-based contemporary Dance Company MOCEAN DANCE will be in residence at King’s Theatre from February 10-15, creating a new work.

The Mocean creation residency series is part of the Nova Scotia Talent Trust’s 75th Anniversary celebrations. Coffin, Skinner and Zimmer - past program alumnae, will be ambassadors of the Talent Trust program, to help inspire young dancers across the province, inform students of the training scholarship program, as well as offer workshops for the local high school and community members to take in a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process of Inside Wild.

King’s Theatre is pleased to announce the creation residency of Atlantic Canada’s leading contemporary dance company, Mocean Dance from February 10-15, 2019. 

During this time, Mocean’s Co-Artistic Director Sara Coffin will work on a new creation, Inside Wild, while experimenting with new multimedia elements and set design possibilities for the new, original work.

Joining Sara are dance artists Anastasia Weibe, Julie Robert, Lydia Zimmer & Georgia Skinner as well as collaborators multimedia artist Nick Bottomly & composer/multidisciplinary artist Brian Riley as they experiment with multimedia elements and set design for the new work.

King’s Theatre patrons are invited to join some of Nova Scotia’s most innovative dance and theatre artists for a work-in-progress sharing for an intimate behind-the-scenes look at how contemporary dance is made along with an artist talk that will explore the working progress when incorporating multimedia elements to help tell a story.

Open Studio will showcase four dance pieces by Molly Johnson, Aliah Schwartz, Georgia Skinner and Dustin Harvey. A post-show discussion on Saturday will be facilitated by Kinetic Artistic Director Jacinte Armstrong.

Toronto-based, Cape Breton raised, Dora Award winning choreographer Molly Johnson will present Me and the Patriarchy. A finalist for the 2013 Toronto Arts Foundation Emerging Artist Award, Molly also dances for Montréal’s Le Carré des Lombes, performing the work of Danièle Desnoyers nationally and abroad.

Canning’s Aliah Schwartz, 2015’s Lieutenant Governor's Award and 2014 Canada Games Young Artist of Excellence Award, is in the beginning stages of creating and developing an aesthetic with Montreal’s Guillaume Loslier-Pinard.

Together they are Blunder Blunder and will show their first piece No Need for Blue Jeans Here is “situated in a limbo between life and death, the line between humour and tragedy.” Schwartz is currently completing her BFA in contemporary dance at Loslier-Pinard’s alma mater Concordia University.

No stranger to the Open Studio Series, Halifax’s Georgia Skinner’s Clench working title) is an exploration of how particular emotions manifest in the body with a focus on anxiety, stress. Isolated, intuitive, and palpable, Clench is a tribute to habitual motions of  bodies under stress, the trickery of panic attacks and the struggle to feel content. Recently seen at the Bus Stop Theatre in Votive Dance’s EAST MEETS WEST, Georgia is a member of Halifax’s Nostos Collective and The Woods Hip Hop Society.
