Talent Trust recipient Lydia Zimmer has pursued professional training at the Boston Conservatory, Canada's National Ballet School and Springboard Danse Montreal to emerge as an original and daring dancer and choreographer.

Her solo piece SONDERLING explores mental illness, eccentricity and unusual movement.

Halifax-based contemporary Dance Company MOCEAN DANCE will be in residence at King’s Theatre from February 10-15, creating a new work.

The Mocean creation residency series is part of the Nova Scotia Talent Trust’s 75th Anniversary celebrations. Coffin, Skinner and Zimmer - past program alumnae, will be ambassadors of the Talent Trust program, to help inspire young dancers across the province, inform students of the training scholarship program, as well as offer workshops for the local high school and community members to take in a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process of Inside Wild.

King’s Theatre is pleased to announce the creation residency of Atlantic Canada’s leading contemporary dance company, Mocean Dance from February 10-15, 2019. 

During this time, Mocean’s Co-Artistic Director Sara Coffin will work on a new creation, Inside Wild, while experimenting with new multimedia elements and set design possibilities for the new, original work.

Joining Sara are dance artists Anastasia Weibe, Julie Robert, Lydia Zimmer & Georgia Skinner as well as collaborators multimedia artist Nick Bottomly & composer/multidisciplinary artist Brian Riley as they experiment with multimedia elements and set design for the new work.

King’s Theatre patrons are invited to join some of Nova Scotia’s most innovative dance and theatre artists for a work-in-progress sharing for an intimate behind-the-scenes look at how contemporary dance is made along with an artist talk that will explore the working progress when incorporating multimedia elements to help tell a story.

Announcing the Nova Scotia Talent Trust 2019 Scholarship Application Deadlines

We’re pleased to announce that we are ready to receive new scholarship applications for 2019.  

The deadlines are fast approaching!

The scholarship application process will again happen online, thanks to the generous support by Code & Mortar, a Halifax-based web design and development firm, and the Support4Culture program.

We advise applicants to read the submission guidelines carefully and to submit their applications early since there are a number of changes to the submission procedures this year.

Charlotte Wilson-Hammond Exhibition In/Visible Comes to Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore

Talent Trust board member Charlotte Wilson-Hammond brings her exhibition In/Visible to Memory Lane Heritage Village on Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore.

Charlotte has been active in Nova Scotia’s arts community for the past 30 years, serving on the Board of Governors of NSCAD University, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Canadian Conference of the Arts, and Canadian Artists Representation (CARFAC). 

She’s also our past chair, and continues to be a respected and active advocate for the arts.

In 2004 Charlotte was awarded the Portia White Prize, a $25,000 award honouring a senior artist in the Province of Nova Scotia. She used part of the award to establish the Charlotte Wilson-Hammond/Visual Arts Nova Scotia Scholarship, which is administered through the Talent Trust.

In/Visible explores the human condition: fragility, ageing, beauty and strength, incorporating images of her own body in the work. 

In/Visible was first exhibited at ARTsPLACE Gallery in Annapolis Royal earlier this year. The exhibition will be at St. F.X. University Gallery November 15 to December 17.

Heemin Choi, 2018 Nova Scotia Talent Trust Goodwill Ambassador

We'd like to introduce you to one of Nova Scotia’s promising artists: Heemin Choi, the 2018 Talent Trust Goodwill Ambassador.

Heemin is an extraordinary young performer. He began his studies with Halifax violinist Myonghae Yoon at the age of 6. He completed his bachelor’s degree at Dalhousie University’s Fountain School of Performing Arts under international award-winning Philippe Djokic, and is currently a master’s student at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music in Texas, studying under Paul Kantor, who is one of the most sought-after violin teachers in North America.

Here's how our generous community of donors has made an impact on Heemin.

I am thankful to the Talent Trust and you as contributors. You have played such a vital and integral role throughout the entirety of my life as a musician. It is an honour to be the NSTT Goodwill Ambassador for 2018.

When I received my first scholarship in 2005 I was the youngest Talent Trust scholarship recipient ever. I was so proud.

The scholarship and special awards have opened many tremendous opportunities and life changing experiences. I truly would not be where I am today if it were not for the incredible belief in me as a musician.

By supporting the Talent Trust you helped support my studies in Halifax with Myonghae Yoon, later with Philippe Djokic, and now in Huston with Paul Kantor.

The generosity and kindness of the Talent Trust has always been an inspiration to me, and I will use your support as strength and fuel to do my absolute best.

It's Our Birthday. Here's How We're Celebrating

The Talent Trust officially began 74 years ago today. We're planning big things for our 75th anniversary (when we go platinum!), but for now, we're having a more modest celebration.

Modest, but important.

Today, we want to toast all of you.

If you've applied for a scholarship — because that process can be intimidating. You put yourself out there and held your breath. We know how that feels, and we think you're amazing for working so hard, not just on your art, but everything that goes with establishing yourself as a professional artist.

If you're one of our community partners — the small but mighty organizations, like us, helping your members make their art and build their careers. We're glad to work beside you.

If you're just starting to think about becoming an artist, or if you're switching media — you're brilliant. We know it's hard work, and we know it's rewarding, and that's just one of the reasons we're here. Dream big. 

If you're in the audience — going to shows, buying art, telling family and friends about the artist you love or have just discovered. You're important partners in this enterprise.

If you've donated to the Talent Trust — last but by no means least, one of the dedicated people who believe in the creativity of the up-and-coming talent in Nova Scotia. You're helping artists enrich our communities, our province, country, and the world.
