Lux Habrich in First You Dream: Celebrating 75 Years of the Nova Scotia Talent Trust.
LUX HABRICH: NS TALENT TRUST SCHOLARSHIP 2016
Join us for the Opening Reception on Saturday, May 25 at 2 p.m. at MSVU Art Gallery in Halifax.
Lux Habrich was born in Montreal, Quebec and moved to Atlantic Canada in 2012 to attend NSCAD University, Halifax. In 2015, she received her BFA from NSCAD in interdisciplinary arts, focusing primarily on textiles and ceramics. She draws on her mixed racial and cultural identity as the foundation of much of her work, and is interested in tactile craft practices. She has received numerous awards including the 2016 Charlotte Wilson-Hammond/VANS Award presented by the Nova Scotia Talent Trust and currently lives in Nova Scotia, where she maintains her practice and, most recently, has completed a residency at White Rabbit Arts in Upper Economy, NS.
“I am grateful for not only the financial, but also the artistic faith the Nova Scotia Talent Trust had in me at such a volatile point in my practice.
This crucial support came at the beginning of my career, assisting me through the first rocky year post-graduation to continue learning through a community residency and private mentorship.
More than anything, their support was a validation of my creative merit; quieting the insecurities I had about choosing to pursue a professional career in the arts. It is an honour to exhibit alongside artists that have been a great influence on my work.”

Lux Habrich Selected as Media Arts Scholar for the Centre for Art Tapes Class of 2018-19
Originally from Montréal, Lux moved to Atlantic Canada in 2012 to complete an Interdisciplinary BFA at NSCAD University. She received Talent Trust scholarships in interdisciplinary visual arts to assist with her studies in 2016.
Lux was a participant in Craft Nova Scotia’s Craft LAIR, an eight-week community focused local artist in residence program in 2015, and was a mentee in the 2017-18 Visual Arts Nova Scotia Mentorship Program.
She employs tactile craft processes in her work as she explores their highly political nature as a domestic, feminine and often undervalued form of production.

The CFAT scholarship program is an intensive six months of education and mentorship for artists who will make a media art piece in a medium where they have little to no experience. Artists will learn new art-making skills during the program, and are responsible to complete their projects by the program deadline.

NAT chantel in Echoes: Craft Nova Scotia Summer Professional Development Residency Exhibition
The exhibition opens August 30 and runs until September 16.
NAT is an African Nova Scotian emerging artist in multimedia, textiles and sculpture. Her work speaks to imposed societal structures that inform identity, and the erasure of body and self through communication, and conditions within the environment.
NAT received Talent Trust scholarships in 2017 and 2018. She recently participated in Visual Arts Nova Scotia’s Mentorship Program, where she exhibited her resulting work alongside Talent Trust scholarship recipient Lux Habrich at the Craig Gallery in Dartmouth, NS.
From Craft Nova Scotia: “Echoes brings together eight emerging, pre-professional and self-directed artists who have used the time and studio space of the Summer Professional Development Residency to craft a body of work while exploring individual style and technique. This group exhibition reflects individual histories, responses to movement, and mirrors material process in form. It is a conversation – a call and answer – created by individuals working alongside one another.”

NAT chantel and Lux Habrich in VANS Mentorship Exhibition
NAT chantel and Lux Habrich are among the artists in Conversations, Visual Arts Nova Scotia’s 2017-18 Mentorship Exhibition.
NAT chantel is an African Nova Scotian emerging artist in multimedia, textiles and sculpture. Her work speaks to imposed societal structures that inform identity, and the erasure of body and self through communication, and conditions within the environment.
NAT was a contributing artist and instructor for the Peace Warriors Art and Wellness Festival in 2015, and participated in the group installation The Unkindness at IgNight the Night Art Festival that same year.
She received a Talent Trust scholarship in 2017 to study privately with interdisciplinary artist Kate Ward. NAT had her first solo exhibit MUD at Afterglow Bridgewater Festival on September 30, 2017.

Founded in 2006, the VANS Mentorship Program pairs emerging artists with established artists in a 10-month mentorship. This working relationship provides emerging artists with an exceptional opportunity to develop both their creative process and professional skills, enabling them to build a foundation for a successful career in the visual arts.
