Former NSTT scholarship recipient Ifan Williams in concert January 19, 2019

Cellist Ifan Williams and violinist Bonnie Romkey will perform DUOS Violin and Violoncello on January 19, 2019 at the Pond Playhouse in Halifax. 

DUOS is a one-night only concert presented by Theatre Arts Guild.

Ifan Williams is a former Talent Trust music scholarship recipient. 

He has performed with the New Philharmonia of London, London Symphony Orchestra, Canadian Chamber Ensemble, and the Classical Quartet of Montreal. 

He’s been Artist In Residence at the University of New Brunswick, Professor of Cello at Mount Allison University, and is the current Chair of Musique Royale and Opera Nova Scotia.


DUOS is a semi-formal affair to ring in the new year. As Theatre Arts Guild says, who doesn’t love to dress up!

There are only 90 seats available, so don’t wait to buy your tickets, which make a lovely stocking stuffer for classical music fans.

India Yeshe Gailey in Vaso String Quartet Debut Concert in Toronto

India Yeshe Gailey - Vaso String Quartet


India Yeshe Gailey and her cello join violinists Hua-Chu Huang, Aysel Taghi-Zada, and violist Peter Ayuso for their debut concert as Vaso String Quartet.

Formed in May 2018 at the Scotia Festival of Music, this ensemble brings together four dedicated musicians with a passion for contemporary repertoire. The concert will include music by Glass, Gershwin, Bosmans, Shaw, and Piazzolla.

India is working on a master’s degree in cello performance at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montreal. She’s involved with several projects and creative ensembles, including New Hermitage, a Halifax-based environmental chamber jazz ensemble; Bonsai, a cello-percussion duo with Ken Shorley; and Ear Camera, an avant-garde composer collective in Montréal.

India also studied visual art at NSCAD University, which has significantly informed her work as a composer. In 2017 she was awarded the Talent Trust Yue Lih and Marion Kuo Award for exceptional commitment and potential in music as an instrumentalist.

Heemin Choi and Ifan Williams Perform Death and the Maiden - Presented by Theatre Arts Guild

On June 17 at 2:00 p.m. Theatre Arts Guild will present a live performance of the first two movements of Schubert’s concerto Death and the Maiden by Phillippe Djokic, Heemin Choi, Margot Aldrich and Ifan Williams. The performance is approximately 35 minutes. 

Heemin Choi (violin) completed his bachelor’s degree at Dalhousie University’s Fountain School of Performing Arts under international award-winning Philippe Djokic, and is currently a master’s student at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music in Texas, studying under Paul Kantor, who is one of the most sought-after violin teachers in North America. 


Ifan Williams (cello) has performed with the New Philharmonia of London, London Symphony Orchestra, Canadian Chamber Ensemble, and the Classical Quartet of Montreal. 

He’s been Artist In Residence at the University of New Brunswick, Professor of Cello at Mount Allison University, and is the current Chair of Musique Royale and Opera Nova Scotia.

The play will begin shortly after the June 17 matinee performance. Death and the Maiden runs from June 7 - 23 at The Pond Playhouse in Halifax (audience note: suitable for adults only with explicit language that may be offensive to some. Cellist India Yeshe Gailey Master’s Recital at McGill University

Here’s a great excuse for a visit to Montreal, or a lovely way to spend part of your afternoon if you live there. Cellist India Yeshe Gailey performs her first master’s recital at McGill University on May 12, 2018. 

The performance features Bryce Lansdell on Piano and includes works by Jocelyn Morlock, György Ligeti, Kaija Saariaho, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Anton Webern.


The recital begins at 1:00 p.m. at Redpath Hall, 3461 rue McTavish (McTavish Gates). Admission is free.
