The Talent Trust has partnered with Government House to present a piano recital with scholarship recipient Alex Yang. Alex’s September 18 performance is part of the Evenings @ Government House series.
His repertoire will include pieces by J. S. Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and Beethoven.
At nine years old, Alex is one of our youngest scholarship recipients. He’s studied piano with Lynn Stodola for the past three years, and also plays violin.
Alex won first place in each of his five piano repertoire classes at the 2018 Kiwanis Music Festival, and and was invited to perform at the Festival’s Gala, where he received the Gordon Murray Rising Star Award.
Alex was the Bronze Prize winner of the 2017 Canadian Music Competition National Final and won the Silver Prize at the 2018 National Final. He was awarded 2018 scholarships for the intermediate group in piano and the junior group in violin by the Nova Scotia Registered Music Teachers’ Association Competition.

Pianist Jennifer King performs Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time with Karem J. Simon (clarinet), Karen Graves (violin), and Natalie Williams Calhoun (cello).
The concert, which takes place on September 8, is part of the UPEI Music Department Clarinet Spectrum Recital Series.
A skilled performer, respected adjudicator, coach, and clinician, Jennifer holds a Masters of Music degree in solo piano performance from McGill University, postgraduate diplomas from the University of Reading in the UK as well as the Royal Academy of Music in London, England.
In addition to her Talent Trust scholarships, Jennifer received an Award of Appreciation from the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia for her contributions to musical life in the province.
She’s a member of the Nova Scotia Registered Music Teachers’ Association (NSRMTA) and a private piano instructor and faculty member of the Maritime Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Halifax.

Quartet for the End of Time was written while Olivier Messiaen was was a prisoner of war at the Nazis' Stalag VIII-A camp. The work explores his struggle to endure the conditions of his imprisonment as well as his Catholic faith.

Nicholas Higgs and Tara Scott present a 45-minute recital that includes works by Haydn, Schubert (Die Schöne Müllerin), Gounod, Mendelssohn, Charles, and Head.
Nicholas is from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia and received Talent Trust scholarships in 2013, 2015, and 2017. He's studied voice at the University of Toronto.
His baritone vocals will be accompanied by Tara on piano as part of the Summer Sounds @ Barrington Concert series that takes place every year in July and August at St. Matthew's United Church.

French horn player Mimisu Lee is performing her graduation recital on Tuesday April 17th at 7:30pm at St. Andrew's United Church in Halifax.
Since her musical debut at the age of 10, Mimisu has become an award-winning musician who is completing her studies at the Fountain School of Performing Arts at Dalhousie University. She's performed with Symphony Nova Scotia, Scotia Festival Orchestra, Dalhousie University Symphony, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Institute at Whistler Orchestra, and the San Diego International Youth Orchestra.

Lala Lee is a member of the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra and has been performing in front of audiences since the age of 5. Nova Scotia Talent Trust Scholarship Recipient 2014 and Grade 10 Honour With Distinction student at Sacred Heart School of Halifax and a Sacred Heart Scholar, Lala is passionate about music, the arts, and social justice. Lala is performing this solo recital to celebrate music and to celebrate the life of another young Haligonian, Abigail Bryant.
Abby Bryant was equally passionate about music, art, and social justice. She was a singer, actor, poet, photographer, songwriter, and doer of good things. The youngest Founding Member of The Friends of Gilda's Nova Scotia, Abby was also passionate about ensuring that no one -especially children and young people- in Nova Scotia go through cancer alone.
Please join her on Sunday, May 10th, at 2:00 to celebrate two young women who are dedicated to art, music, and making Halifax and Nova Scotia a better place. Proceeds from this event will benefit both The Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra and The Friends of Gilda's Nova Scotia.
