Reeny Smith wins African Nova Scotian Artist of the Year

Congratulations Reeny for winning 2016 African Nova Scotian Artist of the Year!

Reeny Smith is a talented, emerging artist from North Preston, Nova Scotia and has been singing and playing the piano since the age of five. 

Reeny was selected for the Portia White Award for Excellence in Vocal Performance in 2011, along with a scholarship from the Nova Scotia Talent Trust recognizing her 
outstanding musical attributes.

Mocean Dance wins 2016 Masterwork Arts Award

Jacinte Armstrong wins 2016 Established Artist Recognition Award

2016 Established Artist Recognition Award given by Creative NS Leadership Council.

Jacinte Armstrong is a Halifax-based dance artist who has worked with many collaborators locally and across Canada. A native Haligonian, she trained at Halifax Dance before studying at the New World School of the Arts in Miami, FL. 

Jacinte is currently the Artistic Director of Kinetic Studio, and performs regularly with Mocean dance, SiNS (Sometimes in Nova Scotia) dance, independently, and in her own work. Her choreography ranges from intimate and imagistic to large-scale collaboration with architects, filmmakers, and musicians.

Jeff Joudrey with the Halifax Camerata Singers win Best Classical CD of 2016

Congratulations Jeff and the Halifax Camerata Singers for winning Best Classical CD of 2016 at the Nova Scotia Music week. 

The winning CD is called A Time for all Things.

The Halifax Camerata Singers is Atlantic Canada’s premier chamber choir. Founded in 1986 by Artistic Director Jeff Joudrey, the Nova Scotia ensemble has distinguished itself by performing exciting choral repertoire that covers all periods and styles, with special attention to Canadian music.

Allison Angelo is a grant recipient of the Canada Council of the Arts and a two-time winner of the Portia White Award from the Nova Scotia Talent Trust. She has been heard on CBC Radio and Bravo!Canada and recently released her first professional CD, titled Moon Loves Its Light. 

Hailed as “a fabulous discovery” by The Toronto Star, Canadian soprano Allison Angelo debuts this season with the Elmer Iseler Singers as the soprano soloist for Handel’s Messiah. She will also be heard in a concert of Canadian opera, operetta and musical theatre on the Music at St. Andrew’s Series (Toronto), and in recital with the Mountain View Connection Series (Calgary). Last season she debuted with Voicebox: Opera In Concert's presentation of Salieri’s Falstaff with the Aradia Ensemble, was heard in recital with the Off-Centre Music Salon, and recreated the role of Mabel Hubbard Bell in The Bells Of Baddeck in Baddeck, Cape Breton, after its hugely successful premiere in 2015.

Ms. Angelo has recently appeared with the Toronto, Edmonton, Niagara, Kingston, Winnipeg, Victoria and Vancouver Symphonies, Symphony Nova Scotia, the Boston POPS, the Tangelwood Festival Orchestra, the Elora Festival, the Scotia Festival of Music and Toronto’s Luminato Festival.
